Understanding Psychological Testing

Psychological testing provides valuable information about how an individual thinks, learns, feels, and functions in everyday life. A comprehensive evaluation may help clarify diagnoses, identify strengths and challenges, and guide treatment or educational planning.

At Mosaic Psychological Services, evaluations are individualized according to the referral questions and the needs of each client. Testing may involve interviews, questionnaires, standardized assessments, and a review of relevant background information.

Assessments of attention, executive functioning, activity level, and related concerns, while considering other factors that may affect concentration and behavior.

Cognitive & Learning Evaluations

Evaluations that explore cognitive abilities, academic skills, learning patterns, and potential areas requiring additional support.

How long does psychological testing take?

The length of testing varies depending on the type of evaluation, the individual's needs, and the assessments required. Some evaluations involve multiple appointments. Our staff can provide additional information about the expected process.

Does testing always result in a diagnosis?

No. The purpose of testing is to better understand an individual's functioning. An evaluation may identify a diagnosis, clarify existing concerns, or determine that the available information does not support a particular diagnosis.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Bring any documents requested by our office. Depending on the evaluation, these may include previous assessment reports, educational records, medical information, or other relevant documents.

Will I receive a written report?

Written reports are generally part of comprehensive psychological evaluations. For applicable evaluations, the report is provided following the feedback appointment, in accordance with Mosaic's procedures.

Does insurance cover psychological testing?

Coverage depends on your insurance plan, the purpose of the evaluation, medical necessity, and applicable benefits. Some evaluations may not be covered. Please contact our office to discuss insurance and payment options before scheduling.

Can testing help with school or workplace concerns?

Psychological evaluations may provide information that helps individuals, families, and professionals better understand learning or functional needs. Specific accommodations and eligibility decisions are determined by the relevant school, employer, or other organization.
